The Frim - Vermont producer and DJ Nicholas Friml - has been a part of American bass music since its formative years. He found his voice in dubstep in the early 2010s and, in November 2012, released his debut EP, Bassline Skanka, on Firepower Records. Around its release, he opened a run of dates on the label's Firepower Tour, and the following year shared stages on the 2013 Most Wanted Tour alongside Datsik, FuntCase, Antiserum, Mayhem, and Protohype.
Across the years that followed, The Frim became a trusted name on the scene's core labels, releasing through Firepower, Disciple, and Never Say Die. His tracks drew support from many of bass music's biggest names - Skrillex, Bassnectar, and Flux Pavilion among them - while his two collaborations with Excision, X Up and Night Shine, became genre staples. Excision still drops X Up in his sets today.
His defining moment came at the inaugural Lost Lands in 2017. Excision's now-legendary bass mecca sold out all 25,000 tickets in its first year, and The Frim brought a punishing set to the Cave of Souls stage. He continues to write and perform, with recent appearances in Brooklyn and Houston supporting BadKlaat. A great-grandson of operetta composer Rudolf Friml, The Frim carries a multi-generational musical lineage into the low end, pairing a lifelong ear for composition with a finishing engineer's obsession with detail, dynamics, and the final master.
